Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how Birdhouse (“Birdhouse”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you visit our website or interact with us. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the data controller is Huron Birds LLP, BC, Canada.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, contact us at info@birdhouse.io.

Information we collect

We collect personal data that you provide directly to us, and a limited amount of data automatically when you use our site.

Information you provide

  • Contact enquiries: when you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
  • Job applications: when you apply for a role or submit an open application, we collect your name, email address, area of interest, years of experience, LinkedIn/portfolio URL, the information you write about yourself, and your CV (PDF).

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data: your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited, collected through server logs and cookies.
  • Anti-spam verification: our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect against automated abuse, which processes limited technical signals to distinguish humans from bots.

How we use your information

  • To respond to your enquiries and communicate with you.
  • To review and process job applications, and to contact you about opportunities.
  • To operate, maintain, and secure our website, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
  • To comply with our legal obligations.

Legal bases for processing

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent: for example, when you submit a form after accepting this policy. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests: to run and protect our business, respond to enquiries, and assess candidates.
  • Legal obligation: where we are required by law to process or retain data.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings and via the cookie banner shown on your first visit.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the site and our business, such as hosting, email delivery, and security (including Cloudflare), under contracts that require them to protect your data.
  • Authorities where required by law, regulation, or legal process.

International transfers

Some of our providers may process data outside your country or the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above. Contact enquiries are retained for 1 year; job applications are retained for 1 year unless you ask us to delete them sooner, or you consent to us keeping them longer for future opportunities.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@birdhouse.io.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

Our website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
